TH Hockey

Tony Harris earliest memory of drawing a hockey player was back in his grade 3 art class at Lakefield Elementary School. That pencil sketch was of his childhood idol, Chicago Blackhawks goalie Tony Esposito. Tony's passion for capturing athletes on paper never wained and years later he has established himself as a premiere sports artist.

In 2008 Tony joined the NHL Players Association Partnership Program and is contracted annually to paint a portrait of the Ted Lindsay Award recipient.

What makes Tony's work standout is his ability to paint a portrait that seemingly could step right off the canvas and engage the viewer.

"I have always been fascinated with the uniqueness each hockey player adds to what should be the uniform look of his team. It's in the details. Every player wears his equipment differently. Some tuck the sweater in on the left or the right, some never fasten the chin strap, others use a skate lace as a belt or have a family member's initials discretely stamped on a glove or a skate. These are the nuances that make each subject both challenging and fun to paint."- Tony Harris
